How's Mycorrhiza coming along?

How's Mycorrhiza coming along?

Mycorrhiza's newest demo has been out for about three months now and you're probably eager to find out how the development of the full game version is coming along. Well, I'm here to answer that question! But first, let me celebrate the fact that Mycorrhiza has broken 2000 downloads! Thanks again for all your support, it really means a lot to us!

What has been done?

Around the time of release I've taken a bigger break to concentrate on finishing some university essays that were breathing down my neck and waiting for feedback to roll in to decide the further course of development. Thanks again to everyone who has submitted their feedback forms, they really help us out a lot! And if you haven't submitted yours yet, please consider doing so if you can find the time! We'll continue reading all newly submitted feedback and adjust our game accordingly to make it the best it can be.

But now that the essays are submitted and the feedback has been read, I've been getting back into actively working on the game. Aside from minor text fixes, we've also updated the text boxes! They seemed rather simplistic originally and we received quite a lot of positive feedback for the new design on Twitter. The new design was originally inspired by Spirit Hunter: Death Mark, a horror visual novel I played not too long ago. This paper design also adds another layer to this game's manga inspired feeling

A huge milestone that was reached just recently is the completion of two side routes within the first two doors. You might remember me mentioning that I wanted characters to reappear in other doors instead of them only being confined to one. This also meant that I wanted to incorporate characters from the third door, which you haven't seen yet, into the first two doors. They haven't been designed yet since I'll likely want to commission those as I'm deeper within the third door rewrites, but you'll get to see them soon enough!

What's left to do?

The basic story structure of the third door is technically already done. But I still need to make adjustments caused by the new feature addition that the player is able to play through the doors in any order. The ending of the game is already written as well but might need to be adjusted based on the rewrites of the third door and feedback from the testers.

There are also lots of additional extra texts that explain the story behind everything that's happening in Mycorrhiza. They'll need some proofreading to make sure that they don't sound too awkward, especially since their tone is more factual compared to the core game.

I'm also planning to hide a few easter eggs and fun, small tidbids in the game. I may be a huge horror fan, but I'm also a huge shitposter at heart. But don't worry, they'll be implemented in a way that won't detract from the atmosphere of the game. I was considering putting them off until after the full release as an extra but I feel like people might find having to go back to the game to get the secrets rather tedious, so it makes more sense to incorporate them into the full game's release. But don't worry, they won't delay the release by much at all, since they're very small.

There's also of course all of the asset creation that we will have to get to once the writing is adjusted.

One very important thing that we'll want to do once the game is mostly done is make a "light" version of it. Some people have reported that the animations are causing problems on older hardware. Since we'd like as many people as possible to enjoy Mycorrhiza, we decided to create an additional animation less version that will release with the full version of the game.

And that's that

While the fact that all the remaining texts have been drafted makes it seem like there's not much else left to do, the fact that the third door and ending texts still need to be adjusted and assets need to be created and implemented will likely shift the release into next year. Especially since the third door has a pretty complex structure and the most text so far.

I wish I could show you some more screenshots or some music tracks but we're unfortunately not deep enough in the asset creation phase yet. But don't worry, the time will come soon enough when we'll shower you with horrific imagery that'll rob you of your sleep!

Again, thanks a lot for all your feedback, support and patience! I can't wait to show you what the third door has in store for you, so make sure to follow our progress on Twitter if you'd like to stay up to date!
