Welcome to a world of distorted minds

Mycorrhiza is a love letter to horror manga in the form of a visual novel. Some of our biggest inspirations include the works of Junji Ito and Masaaki Nakayama.

While Scott is trying to find a way back home, reality distorts and people’s morals start shifting in cruel and unexpected ways. A peculiar plant transforming animals, a horrifying comedy trend and a strange building trapping people. Each of the three arcs explores different terrors.

As you explore this terrifying world, you'll find out more and more about how and why Scott is trapped in it and what lead up to Scott being spirited away.

The game features a manga aesthetic with animated CGs and character art drawn by a manga artist, a focus on elaborate audio implementation, as well as an honest attempt to make the game accessible by providing visual audio cues and a dyslexic font option.

Join us on our adventure into despair.

THIS GAME FEATURES DEPICTIONS OF VIOLENCE, BLOOD AND GRAPHIC IMAGERY, WHICH AT TIMES FEATURES CHILDREN AND ANIMALS.

Opening the doors once more....~

(+1)

congrats on the full release!!!

Thank you!

(+1)(-1)

Giving it a Let's Play, of course. :D

(+1)

Thanks for playing it! Your demo playthrough back then was lots of fun to watch, can't wait to watch your full playthrough now that you've started it!

Appreciate it, excited to see what the other stories are like :D

(+1)(-1)

I am glad I waited for the full release before playing the game, the last part really pulls together the experience and interconnects the ideas. Each story really felt unique and I loved the different horror tales in each, that middle really was the creepiest seeing a story where everyone was deforming themselves in a delusion of comedy. Really great horror moments in all of them, and it was a real challenge finding all of the keys. I still wonder what will be in the last drawer.

(+2)

Thanks a lot for playing our game and for making the video! I believe your let's play is the first full-length one on YouTube. I'm really happy to hear that you enjoyed it!

Regarding the fourth drawer: Keep your eyes on our Twitter and devlogs! It will likely take a while until we're able to open it but I'm sure you'll enjoy it once we do!

so interesting how the first two arcs are subtly connected.. can't wait for the third door:))

Loved this!

this game is really really good

i love the feel and aesthetic of it, and the art is so so so good!! :D

i hope development is going well for all of you and that youre having a good day!!

(1 edit)

I want to know what's the music played in door two whenever we're seeing the characters.

You'll probably have to wait until the soundtrack has been released, the music tracks don't really have official names yet ^^

Wait? So are they original music tracks or something?

Yes, music composition, sound design and audio direction is done by me

(+1)

Good job! I liked them very much!

Thank you, I really appreciate it!

i loved the first door and the 2nd was just as amazing i did the first door 7 months ago very glad i checked for updates CANT WAIT FOR DOOR THREEEEE
(+1)

I love the similar appearance to the Junji Ito style in this game. It is very horrifically beautiful. I did the first door in this video and am eager to explore the other two doors. The writing is very well done and I think you have a really good visual novel here. Can't wait for the full release!

(+1)

This was actually a really fun game. I like hoe the style is kind of similar to Junji ito. Great work!

(1 edit) (+1)

I really enjoyed playing it. The atmosphere, story and the whole experience was very great. Looking forward for the update!

The sound effect in this game is superb. It's perfectly timed and used. However I feel the whole game itself lacks impact that could makes the reader shiver or shocked, it just feels like something is wrong. Perhaps it'll be improved in the full version though. There's also lag spike for low end machine, which to me a bit strange since there's a little amount of animation. Other than that, I would love to see the full version of it!

Thank you for your feedback! Do you think you'd be able to outline the specs of your computer, so we could do some more testing? You don't have to do it in the comments of course if you'd rather not share them publicly, feel free to DM me on Twitter if you'd like to!

Sure!

I recorded the game without any commentary so you can feel like reading a manga! Please help me reach 100 subs :)
(+1)

I love love love this! This game makes me want to start reading manga again♥!! I cannot wait for act 2!

(+1)

Really dug this! Can't wait to check out the full release.

I enjoyed this so much!

The atmosphere was fantastic - especially the way you played with the sound! I am very much looking forward to the next door opening!

(+1)

This game has a great art style, reminiscent of Neverending Nightmares. The story is what the story is so far, and I'm enjoying it. With just this half alone, I already can't wait to play the rest. I might suggest a voice actor, but regardless, the audio is amazing, and really completes the mood. All in all, thats a 10/10 from me buddy.

Second part will be out soon.
(+2)

So this is probably my new favorite horror manga thing. I'm really curious though - are the other doors meant to be connected or semi-connected stories, or are they all standalone? Regardless, amazing work!

(1 edit) (+3)

That's a great question! I'm currently still thinking about how to handle that. Originally I had planned to have them be more connected, but I've received some really interesting input on how the story setup could be handled more effectively, so they might end up being more separate

(+2)

Interesting. I'm not going to pretend I don't really want to know more about the Pets story, but I'm also not going to complain no matter what. I'll be looking forward to seeing how things turn out!

(+2)

Really nice game! Loved the story, the art and the creepiness!!

(+1)

This game is fun and i like to play this at night

(+2)

i love this so much!! i always love horror visual novels but this one was so good!! it had spook, suspense, and an amazing story line. skip to the end of my video to hear me talk a bit more about what i thought

(+2)

I am gonna say this, this games is SO GOOD, I honestly wasn't expecting much because saying you took inspiration from the works of Junji Ito is setting the bar a little too high but GOOD LORD you jumped that bar and the next two. The intro animation of the door was great!

This is true horror content, no cheap screamers just PERFECT scary environments full of tension and a ongoing mystery plaguing every inch of your brain as you play, Masterful use of the sound and the darkness to play with our minds. That monster will haunt my dreams tonight.

Honestly my only suggestions would be adding more choices if possible but that's just personal taste and maybe adding a little more expressions to the character portraits; Can't wait to open the other 2 doors!

Once again, great game!

Awesome game! Thoroughly enjoyed playing this and I’m really looking forward to seeing the next two chapters. From the outset, I was captivated by the fabulous audio and beautiful imagery. The narrative is beautifully thought out, although I did find one issue in one sentence, but that’s only a minor thing. The storyline draws you in slowly so that you understand the main protagonists and the confusion he is suffering. The characters which are introduced are believable and you question their motives. At the end of the first chapter, it reaches its climax and you’re left on the edge of your seat wondering what will happen next. Fab job!

Such an awesome visual novel! I adore it and look forward to ACT 2! The wording, the art, the audio- all amazing.
(+1)

Game really is interesting and the story also is very interesting as well. I'd only suggest having a unique sound for the monsters. Otherwise, great demo.

Gave it a Let's Play, that was a long read, phew, my voice needs a break now. My only feedback is I'd say, more 'art' depictions of scenes are probably needed, like when you 'die for the first time', lets say, to avoid spoilers. How you die isn't shown, only explained? I'd say its a missed opportunity.

Creepy game , great story and atmosphere good job dev

(+1)

Wow, that was fantastic, I loved the way how it used the sound and music, it got along very well with each other, the backgrounds where also something that got along with everything but the characters where a little off, they felt out of place in my opinion, but overall, that's was fantastic and creepy, good job!
